Sally Renshaw

Why did you decide to make Stavanger the next city to include in the app?
After we added Bergen and Trondheim to the app earlier this year, adding Stavanger just seemed like a logical step for us. It was more of a question of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’. We really love Stavanger. It’s such a pretty city with some lovely vegan friendly restaurants, and lots of great stuff happening. We were there recently for Vegan Weekend Sandnes and as we were eating breakfast in the hotel on the second day of the festival we just decided to set a date for Stavanger release. We released the app in Stavanger on World Vegan Day (1st November) as we released the app for Bergen on WVD last year and it just felt right.

How many places do you have listed in the app for Stavanger?
So far we have around 30 places published in the app but we have a list of around 30 more places which we are working our way through adding. It takes time for us to add places because we really pride ourselves on the quality of our descriptions. We don’t just add a place and write ‘They have vegan food.’ Our descriptions include information about prices, what we recommend on the menu, tips on how to veganise dishes ‘ask them not to use fish sauce in the pad thai’ etc, and info on the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff.

Do you have one or two favourite places there?
Oh yes but it’s hard to pick two! Ok here are SIX!

Norvina
Famous for their incredible spring rolls, this family owned restaurant has a great menu full of vegan options.

Renaa Matbaren & Renaa Xpresssperspective-mockup-free-2
We go to Matbaren for the amazing moroccan cous cous tagine and to Xpress for the pizza. I mean how can you pass up an opportunity for vegan pizza? We go here when we want fancy food served with a cool vibe.

Gådja
Ethiopian food makes our taste buds happy. It’s actually one of our favourite cuisines, as we are all huge fans of curry and all huge fans of pancakes, and when you go to ethiopian restaurants you get many curries served on basically a huge pancake (it’s a special type of bread called injera) Its always such a treat to come here because the prices are great and they have a ‘vegan special’ on the menu.

Original Thai Food
That name doesn’t lie, and their menu doesn’t disappoint. Pretty much anything on the menu here can be made vegan.

Inside Rock Cafe
Vegans need burgers too, and at Inside they know that, and know how to make a mean vegan burger.

stavanger-phonesØkologiske Dagligvarer
One of the best shops in the city, come here for fresh fruit, local vegetables, and a whole bunch more to satisfy your needs.

Any plans for a fifth city?
No concrete plans right now. We are currently working on some new secret features of the app which we cannot wait to show everyone, building up our volunteer group: The Hive, and preparing for our pop up Cookie shop at Vegansk Julefestival which we are really looking forward to. All of this stuff, and keeping on top of all the vegan places in Norway’s four biggest cities is a huge task for us so we’re just powering on with that right now.
